On the 41st anniversary of Operation Bluestar and the death anniversary of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, 'Khalistan Zindabad' slogans were heard in Golden Temple after SAD (Mann) leader Simranjit Singh Mann reached the holy site

On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army launched Operation Bluestar and entered the Golden Temple on the orders of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to contain the militancy led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab

Operation Blue Star was a 10-day military operation

Bhindranwale was the head of radical religious group, Damdami Taksal. He became a prominent figure in the early 1980s when militancy broke out in Punjab

On Friday, former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode criticised the government, questioning the reasons behind entering the Golden Temple. He said Sikhs were only demanding their rights and had not declared any action against the government. People from across the country and abroad gathered at the temple to pay tribute to those who lost their lives
