During England's first innings in the inaugural match of the series, Joe Root played a knock of 28 runs in 58 deliveries, which included two boundaries

With this, he surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya to become the ninth-highest run-scorer in international cricket

So far, in 366 international matches, Root has accumulated 21,053 runs with 54 centuries and 112 half-centuries

On the other hand, Jayasuriya has represented Sri Lanka in 586 matches and has amassed 21,032 runs. The former left-handed batsman has 42 centuries and 103 half-centuries to his name

Enjoying the top spot on the list is legendary Team India batsman Sachin Tendulkar. He concluded his international career with 34,357 runs. The former cricketer also has 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries
