Entrepreneur and social worker Rana Suryawanshi, who has created employment for thousands of Maharashtra youth through his business initiatives and left a deep impression with his social work, was attacked in a deadly assault. Police have indicated that the attack may have been motivated by his extensive social work in Gadchiroli over the past several years.

Rana Suryawanshi was on a work-related visit to Solapur, specifically in connection with a sugar factory which he had recently purchased, when the incident occurred. While returning after visiting Akkalkot, his vehicle was suddenly ambushed. The attackers were armed with pistols and sharp weapons. They arrived in a Bolero jeep (registration number MH 42 24 29).
