The Government of Maharashtra under the leadership of Shri Devendra Fadnavis Honrsquoble Chief Minister was honoured with the CM Transformational amp Sustainable Governance Award at the Water Transversality Global Awards and Conclave 2026 held on 6thMarch at the India International Centre New DelhiThe award was presented by the Chief Guest Shri Om Birla Honrsquoble Speaker of the Lok Sabha in recognition of Maharashtrarsquos progressive governance model transformative infrastructure initiatives and its strong commitment to sustainable and climateresilient development On behalf of the Chief Minister the award was received by Shri Deepak Kapoor Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of MaharashtraThe award recognizes Maharashtrarsquos growing leadership in transformational governance climate action and sustainable infrastructure development under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis Over the past year the state has pursued an ambitious agenda focused on economic growth water security renewable energy and largescale infrastructure development aimed at building a resilient and sustainable futureA key pillar of the statersquos governance framework has been its focus on water conservation and climateresilient resource management The Maharashtra government has expanded initiatives aimed at strengthening water security including largescale watershed programmes and restoration of water bodies in collaboration with industry partners Projects to rejuvenate water bodies across multiple districts have enhanced groundwater recharge and improved water availability for rural communities and agricultureThe state has also advanced major irrigation and watermanagement initiatives designed to strengthen agricultural resilience and reduce drought vulnerability Hundreds of irrigation projects have been approved to bring millions of hectares under irrigation coverage strengthening water availability for farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural productivityIn addition to water management Maharashtra has taken significant steps toward clean energy transition and climate action The government is expanding solar energy and renewable infrastructure with the longterm goal of achieving a major share of green energy in the statersquos power mix The state is also promoting electric mobility green hydrogen and sustainable infrastructure to ensure that economic growth aligns with environmental responsibilityThe Maharashtra government has simultaneously focused on transformational infrastructure and economic development Major projects in transportation logistics and urban infrastructure are strengthening connectivity and boosting industrial growth Initiatives such as expressways logistics corridors and new urban development projects are aimed at positioning Maharashtra as a leading hub for investment innovation and economic activityThe statersquos governance approach also emphasizes technologydriven administration and efficient service delivery Administrative reforms and structured governance programmes have strengthened transparency accelerated project implementation and improved coordination among government departments These reforms have enabled faster decisionmaking and more effective execution of large public infrastructure and development projectsAnother important dimension of Maharashtrarsquos governance model has been its focus on inclusive growth and community participation Programmes supporting farmers rural development entrepreneurship and job creation have helped expand economic opportunities while ensuring that development remains socially inclusive and environmentally responsibleAddressing the gathering during the inauguration and awards felicitation ceremony Shri Om Birla emphasized that development and environmental sustainability must be pursued together rather than viewed as competing priorities He underlined that water conservation energy efficiency and environmental protection require the active participation of citizens governments and institutions Highlighting the interconnected nature of water energy health and environment he noted that integrated policy approaches and ldquotransversalityrdquo between departments are essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable developmentThe CM Transformational amp Sustainable Governance Award at the Water Transversality Global Awards and Conclave 2026 recognizes Maharashtrarsquos integrated approach to developmentone that combines economic transformation environmental stewardship technological innovation and citizen participationThe recognition of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at this international forum underscores Maharashtrarsquos emergence as a leading example of forwardlooking governance demonstrating how strong leadership policy innovation and crosssectoral collaboration can drive sustainable and inclusive development in the years ahead
