Times ICONs of Healthcare Award 2026

At the Times ICONs of Healthcare 2026, held at Taj Vivanta, two neurosurgeons from Andhra Pradesh were recognised for their contributions to advanced neurological and spine care, underscoring the growing role of regional centres in delivering specialised healthcare.

Dr. Mohana Rao Patibandla, Founder and Chief Neurosurgeon of Dr. Rao’s Hospital, received the Times ICON Award 2026 in three categories — Best Neurosurgeon, Best Spine Surgeon, and Best Endovascular Neurosurgeon. The awards were presented by Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, during the ceremony attended by senior clinicians, healthcare administrators, and policymakers.

Dr. Patibandla has been associated with the expansion of minimally invasive neurosurgery, complex spine interventions, and endovascular stroke treatment in Andhra Pradesh. His work has focused on improving neurological outcomes while reducing surgical morbidity, particularly in non-metropolitan settings. Over the years, his institution has evolved into a referral centre for brain, spine, and vascular neurosurgical care.

Also recognised at the event was Dr. Amit Kumar Thotakura, Senior Neurosurgeon at Dr. Rao’s Hospital, who received the Times ICON Award for Best Neurosurgeon. The recognition acknowledged his clinical expertise and contribution to strengthening comprehensive neurosurgical services within the institution.

Healthcare observers noted that the awards reflect a broader transformation in India’s healthcare landscape, where tier-2 cities are increasingly offering advanced, technology-driven medical care. The emphasis on multidisciplinary practice, ethical decision-making, and patient-centric outcomes was highlighted as a key factor behind such recognitions.

The Times ICONs of Healthcare Awards aim to identify and honour individuals and institutions that demonstrate sustained excellence, innovation, and commitment to quality healthcare delivery, contributing to the advancement of India’s medical ecosystem.
