Waiting a Full Day Before Purchasing Is a Habit Worth Keeping

Learn how waiting 24 hours before purchasing non-essential items can reduce impulse spending and encourage smarter shopping decisions.

24-hour purchasing rule.
In Mumbai, buying something rarely requires much waiting. A neighbourhood shop may be only a short walk away, while delivery apps can bring clothes, electronics and household essentials to the doorstep within hours. Online shopping has made that convenience even harder to resist. A product appears on a screen, the card details are already saved, and the transaction can be over before there has been much time to decide whether the item was really needed. One deliberately slow habit cuts against all of that speed: waiting 24 hours before making a non-essential purchase.
What a Day Can Change
It works like this. Something catches your eye online, so you leave it in the cart, or save the product page, and come back to it the next day. There's no formula involved, no rule that says you have to stop shopping altogether. It's just about putting a little distance between seeing something and paying for it.
