A Dubai resident, who has been living with advanced Parkinson's disease for 13 years, has achieved a significant milestone in his health journey. For the first time in over a decade, he was able to fast during Ramadan, a remarkable feat made possible by the groundbreaking levodopa subcutaneous pump. Previously, he relied on taking 10 to 15 tablets daily to manage his symptoms. Now, thanks to this innovative treatment, he has regained the ability to engage in fasting for Ramadan, which had once seemed impossible due to the limitations of his condition.

The transformative change took place after the patient received treatment at the Parkinson’s Centre of Excellence at King’s College Hospital Dubai. The hospital is one of the first in the region to offer the Foslevodopa pump, a next-generation treatment for advanced Parkinson's disease. This innovative device delivers levodopa, the gold standard in Parkinson's treatment, continuously through the skin, much like an insulin pump used for diabetes. The precise dosage is personalized to meet each patient’s unique needs, with adjustments made by experienced Parkinson’s specialists such as Dr. Vinod Metta and Prof. Ray Chaudhuri.
