After buying a vehicle, furniture is what most Indian households spend the most on. Beds, sofas, and wardrobes are expensive, especially if they are made of solid wood-however, the math changes when the unorganised furniture market comes into the picture. Four-fifths of the furniture sold in India comes from local workshops, where the joints, foam density, or the bed frame are in a questionable state early on. There is barely a solid connection between the price and longevity anymore. The gap raises the question of how urban Indians furnish their rented apartments and why furniture on rent has become a temporary solution rather than a stable arrangement.
