Akshi Khandelwal - Founder, Butterfly Ayurveda & Café Swasthya

Akshi Khandelwal founded Butterfly Ayurveda in 2014 to close a gap she saw everywhere: despite Ayurveda's Indian roots, few understood its everyday relevance. A Yale alumna with an MA in International Development Economics, she also trained extensively in Shaolin Kungfu, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong under Shi Yan Xiang, a 34th Generation Shaolin Temple Warrior Monk; a fusion of academic rigor and physical discipline that shaped her holistic approach to wellness.
Since 2013, her R&D-driven approach has produced over 52 in-house Ayurvedic formulations, from teas to supplements, alongside a GMP-certified manufacturing unit. In 2018, she expanded into food with Butterfly Ayurveda Bakery.
Building on this momentum, she founded Café Swasthya,which has now grown to four outlets, serving 100% natural, preservative-free food in recipes backed by research to balance the body's Tridosha - tackling what she calls an overlooked crisis: metabolic dysfunction and its cascading health effects.
Akshi was also selected for the Fortune Women's Mentoring Partnership in 2019, recognized among Republic World’s “India’s Changemakers of 2025, and won Women Listed's Celebrating Excellence Award in 2025.
True to her brand's name, inspired by the butterfly's metamorphosis, Akshi continues to build on that vision, with new outlets and formulations in the pipeline.
