The 56th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) opened in Goa with a Grand Opening Ceremony hosted by Ms. International World 2021, Dr. Akshata Prabhu, who was selected as the Official Host with the ceremony being telecast LIVE on Doordarshan, reaching millions of viewers across India and abroad. IFFI, one of Asia’s most prestigious cinematic gatherings, commenced in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and senior officials from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

This year’s opening unveiled the festival’s first-ever Floating Parade celebrating India’s cinematic heritage. A key feature of IFFI 2025 is its celebration of women-led cinema, aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Nari Shakti' initiative. The festival is screening 50 films by 50 women directors, a milestone Dr. Prabhu spotlighted during her live segments on Doordarshan.
