The Fragmentation Problem
"The honest answer starts with recognising that the pet care industry in India is largely fragmented," Fredun admits. Despite significant growth over the last decade, a consolidated and holistic integration of services, products and pet care has not yet been achieved at a national level.
From a comprehensive ecosystem perspective, growth remains at a relatively nascent stage. Brands are trying fragmentedly to build cohesive ecosystems-focusing only on providing the right products and handling e-commerce or retail aspects. Missing verified services, a paucity of the right professionals, and a lack of structured training continue to be some of the biggest challenges pet parents face today. The industry has witnessed consolidation before achieving true expansion. A handful of organised retailers have grown into dominant players, while smaller pet stores continue to exist largely as independent neighbourhood outlets-much like kirana stores-without the scale to significantly influence the market.
The data behind this is concerning. For a good pet care manufacturing company, scale is driven by volume. However, volume sales are largely controlled by a few organised retail and e-commerce players, making it difficult for newer or better-quality products to gain visibility and establish themselves. "This has resulted in a skewed form of consolidation-one where market access is concentrated among a few large players, without necessarily creating a monopoly, but making it challenging for innovation and quality-driven brands to grow."

Why Pet Parenting Needs an Ecosystem, Not Just Products
Most pet care platforms treat pet parenting like a transaction-buy food, book a groomer, move on. Fredun argues for an integrated model: bring everything together in one connected experience, not to complicate the journey, but to simplify every stage of it.
"Pet parents should not have to navigate multiple disconnected services," he says. "From trusted products to personalised pet profiles, credible content, AI-powered guidance, and discovery of vets, groomers, trainers and other pet-care services-each part is designed to work together and make everyday pet parenting simpler."
He contrasts this with the current reality: pet parents juggling separate apps for food delivery, vet appointments, grooming, and information. "That's not pet parenting. That's chaos dressed up as choice."

Mr. Medhora leads the Fredun Group, with Fredun Pharmaceuticals Limited at its core-an Indian healthcare and pharmaceutical company with four decades of expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Starting his entrepreneurial journey at just 20, he has dedicated nearly two decades to building businesses across the healthcare value chain.
Under his leadership, the Fredun Group has evolved with a strong focus on innovation, quality and long-term value creation, establishing itself as a trusted name across multiple healthcare verticals.
"When we took over WAGR, our vision was quite clear," Fredun explains. "We wanted to address the fragmented nature of the pet care industry by bringing products, services, information and support together under one roof-creating a single, integrated platform equipped to cater to the evolving needs of pet parents."
His entrepreneurial philosophy is rooted in building ecosystems rather than standalone businesses. "My approach focuses on identifying underserved sectors, creating integrated solutions and developing platforms that address evolving consumer needs while delivering sustainable, long-term impact."
Academically, Fredun graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Entrepreneurship from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, completing 127 credits in just two-and-a-half years. He graduated with the highest Grade Point Average in his major and consistently featured on the Dean's List. His academic excellence earned him membership in two of the world's most prestigious honour societies-Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi.
He further pursued an MBA from Cardiff Business School, Wales. His dissertation, "Prospects of the Nutraceuticals Industry in India," reflected his early interest in emerging healthcare segments-an area that would later become an integral part of the Fredun Group's diversified growth strategy.

"The bigger opportunity is to bring everything together in one connected experience," Fredun says. "Technology should never replace veterinarians or trained professionals, but it can help pet parents understand what to do next, stay more consistent with routine care and seek expert support at the right time."
