On September 12, 2025, Abhishek Bachchan filed a petition in court to protect his publicity rights amid the growing misuse of his image, voice and likeness. His rights were protected by court on the same day.
Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was among the first ones to move the Delhi High Court over unauthorised use of his name, image and distinctive voice in 2023. The court granted him interim relief, banning the misuse of his persona, while further preventing infringement of his rights.
The Delhi High Court has also granted an interim protection to actor Akkineni Nagarjuna's personality rights, which include his name, image, and voice, after he filed a lawsuit.
Anil Kapoor also pursued legal protection in 2023 to protect his name, image, voice and also his iconic catchphrase “Jhakaas” from being manipulated without consent. The Delhi High Court ruled in his favour, acknowledging his personality rights and blocking unauthorised commercial use.
In September 2025, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a petition against fake websites presenting themselves as her “official” platforms and selling merchandise featuring her image without permission. The court granted her protection against the unauthorised commercial use of her name, voice, image and likeness.
On October 15, 2025, actor Akshay Kumar filed a commercial intellectual property suit with the Bombay High Court to protect his personality rights from misuse. In his plea, he mentioned a 2024 deepfake viral video went that falsely showed Kumar promoting a gaming application, and a fake trailer of him playing Yogi Adityanath.
Filmmaker Karan Johar also moved the Delhi High Court to seek protection of his personality rights, alleging uncontrolled misuse of his name, photographs, and likeness on social media platforms and websites.
The Delhi High Court granted partial relief to Hindi film actor Jackie Shroff in a case alleging infringement of his personality rights safeguarding his name, voice and image and even trademark 'Bhidu'.
In October 2025, the Bombay High Court granted actor Suniel Shetty an urgent interim injunction to protect his personality rights from misuse, after he filed a commercial intellectual property suit against multiple parties, social media platforms, alleging that his name, image, voice, and even his grand daughter's images were misused.
On October 15, The Delhi High Court ordered the taking down of objectionable posts in Hrithik Roshan’s ongoing personality rights case, thus guarding the actor’s name, image, and likeness from misuse.
Leggendary playback singer Kumar Sanu has also moved the Delhi High Court, seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights, including his name, voice, singing style and image.
