The biggest problem for Rajpal started in 2010. As per reports, he took a Rs 5 crore loan from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to make his directorial film Ata Pata Laapata.
The movie did not do well. After that, he could not repay the loan. As per contract, an additional amount of Rs 7 crore was also supposed to be repaid.
The movie did not do well due to which he could not repay the loan. He gave cheques to return the money and those cheques bounced, leading to cases under section 138.
A magisterial court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife in the cheque-bounce cases in April 2018 and sentenced 6 months of imprisonment.
A sessions court upheld the magisterial court's verdict in January 2019. Later, Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha had filed revision petitions in Delhi High Court.
Later in 2024, the six-month sentence, which had been delayed over the years, was suspended by the Delhi High Court.
The judge noted that Yadav was required to make payment of Rs 1.35 crore in each of the seven cases against him, and directed that the amount already deposited with the Registrar General of the high court be released in favour of the complainant.
In October 2025, two demand drafts (DDs) of Rs 75 lakh were deposited with the Registrar General and an amount of Rs 9 crore remained payable, the court noted in its order.
In December 2025, Rajpal's counsel assured the court that demand draft worth Rs 40 laksh are prepares and remaining 2.10 crore will be arranged by Jan 19.
Despite repeatedly giving assurances and seeking indulgence of this Court, Yadav has failed to comply with the orders passed from time to time.
The Delhi High Court on Feb 2 directed the Bollywood actor to surrender before the concerned Jail Superintendent by February 4, after withdrawing the leniency earlier extended to him.
In a statement mentioned by Bollywood Hungama, the actor got emotional and shared how no one is his friend in Bollywood and he has no help. After this, actor Sonu Sood extended support to him.
