Veteran actor Viju Khote, known for his iconic roles of Kaalia in Sholay and Robert in Andaz Apna Apna, passed away on September 30. He was 77. (All pictures/Yogen Shah)

The actor passed away at his residence in South Mumbai on Monday morning due to multiple organ failure. 

"He passed away today at 6.55 am peacefully in his sleep at the residence. He has been unwell since quite some time. He had multiple organ failure," Khote's niece, actor Bhavana Balsavar, told PTI.

Viju Khote was a renowned actor not only in Hindi cinema, but also in the Marathi film industry. He became popular for his roles in superhit films like Karz, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Andaz Apna Apna among others.

Viju Khote has over 300 films to his credit in Hindi and Marathi cinema. He was also seen in the much-loved television show, Zabaan Sambhal Ke. Viju Khote was last seen in the 2018 film Jaane Kyun De Yaaron.

Arshad Warsi came in to bid a final farewell to the esteemed actor.

Actor-filmmaker Bharat Dabholkar also came in to pay his last respects to Viju Khote.
