Long before the music concert craze began, Pooja D’souza had made a promise to her husband and mother that she would go for Enrique’s concert even if I have to buy the ticket for lakhs and pay an EMI.
She first listened to his songs in early 2000’s because my sister was English music fan. Enrique was also her first introduction to English songs, and they felt so relatable as her first and only relationship began around the same time
Some of her fondest memories include how she had to wait all day for the songs to play because unlike now because they didn’t have the means to listen to whatever we wanted for anytime, and the other is that all his videos were steamy, and so ahead of the times for that time so if her dad entered the house when his songs were playing we had to change the channel
On the other hand, Karen Fernandes feels like her life is coming full circle from the first time she started listening to Enrique. Among the many fun memories she has of growing up to his music, she says figuring out the lyrics and singing along in our worst most off-key tunes is the fondest memory she has of growing up with Enrique’s songs
It was no different for Barsha Bhattacharya, who first started listening to Enrique when she was 12, she and her friend would simply wait for VH1 to play Enrique songs, thanks to a lack of internet at home. On weekends, they would go to cyber cafes and listen to all the latest songs. And when Enrique collaborated with Sunidhi Chauhan, we loved it even though it was super cringe
Even though Krislyn Fernandes chooses to be humble about being a superfan, her excitement is evident when she reveals that she never expected to see him live. She distinctly remembers how she used to have his album CDs in the early 2000s, as Enrique was definitely a name everybody wanted to have in their music collection.
In fact, some of her fondest memories include smiling when he sang 'Hero' because she felt like he was singing it to her and that's why it still remains her favourite song, tearing up while listening to 'Somebody's Me', getting pumped up while screaming and singing 'Escape'
Elsewhere in Mumbai, Fouzia Bukhari is extremely excited to also witness Enrique Iglesias live in Mumbai after becoming a huge fan in 2010. Some of her earliest memories are sharing the songs with her best friends, when they could only have a limited number of songs on the phone, and listening to them together.
It is also why it is hard for her to pick one song because she simply loves most of his songs, including 'Hero', which makes her dreamy-eyed every time she listes to it
