A fire broke out in a 25-storey residential building in the Goregaon (East) area of Mumbai on Wednesday evening, officials said. No injuries have been reported. The blaze was confined to the 9th and 10th floors of the 25-storey Emerald No. 1 building, Royal Palms Estate, on Aarey Road, officials said. The incident was reported at around 7:43 PM, and at least four fire engines of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with other vehicles, rushed to the spot, where firefighting operations are underway, an official added.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Customers create ruckus at gas depot after receiving false delivery messages
Several customers created a ruckus at a gas depot in the Nara area of Nagpur city after receiving false delivery messages on Wednesday. Police said around 25 to 30 customers received SMS alerts claiming their LPG cylinders had been delivered. However, the customers said they had not received any cylinders. Angry over this, they gathered at the gas depot near the Nara crematorium and confronted the owner. The situation turned tense for some time as customers demanded immediate delivery. On receiving information, a team from Jaripatka police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The Maharashtra government has vested district collectors with powers to grant mining permissions for small-scale excavations to curb illegal mining and irregularities in the sector, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Wednesday. "The government assigned powers to district collectors to grant permissions for mining between 500 and 2,000 brass and decided to amend the rules accordingly," he said in a statement. The government took the decision amid concerns over large-scale illegal excavation and unauthorised stone crushers across the state with the aim of improving transparency and accountability in the process.
