A court in Maharashtra`s Thane district has directed the police to register a first information report (FIR) against NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad, accused of making a statement intended to promote enmity between different groups some years back. Judicial Magistrate Mahima Saini passed the order on February 3, directing the Bhayandar police to file a case against the former minister under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) and 505 (2) (statements promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between different classes).

The parents of Badlapur sexual assault accused Akshay Shinde, killed in an alleged encounter with police, told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that they no longer want to fight the case concerning his death. Shinde`s parents made the appeal before the division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Neela Gokhale, which is hearing their petition related to their son`s custodial death.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Vande Bharat sleeper train finishes trials, awaits final nod
The first 16-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Set, which successfully completed long distance trials on January 15 now needs Research Designs and Standards Organisation`s (RDSO) certification and the Commissioner of Railway Safety`s nod before going for commercial operation, the Railway Board said on Thursday. "Before the operationalisation of India`s first Vande Bharat sleeper train, the RDSO will issue a final certificate after analysing the trial runs," the Board said in a press statement.
