A special court in Mumbai on Monday extended till January 18 the police custody of three accused held in connection with the Torres investment fraud with the prosecution claiming the scam, now pegged at Rs 38 crore, was serious and caused loss to the Indian economy. The Mumbai police`s Economic Offences Wing (EOW), the probe agency, said 11 accused wanted for the fraud, involving ponzi schemes operated by a private firm owning `Torres` jewellery brand, are absconding and Look Out Circulars (LOCs) have been issued against them. The accused include foreign nationals.

Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat on Monday announced plans to revise conditions imposed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on homebuyers to allow multiple family members to be eligible to purchase property. Speaking to a regional news channel, the state minister for social justice said the current rules prevent a person from buying a property built by CIDCO if his father already owns one.

The contractual employees of a private operator hired by civic-run BEST went on a flash strike at one of the undertaking`s bus depots in Mumbai early Monday morning, with the stir being called off later after police intervention. Bus services normalised slowly after those protesting resumed duty at 12:30pm, a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking spokesperson said.

An unidentified person allegedly stole cash and valuables worth Rs 15 lakh from the flat of a Mumbai-based model, an official said on Monday. The model, Nikita Nil Barad, who lives alone in a luxury apartment in Lower Parel, was away in Karnataka when the incident occurred between December 12 and January 9.
