Police have arrested a 37-year-old Ivory Coast national and seized 1.51 kilograms of mephedrone (MD) drug valued at approximately Rs 2.12 crore from him in Thane district, a senior official said on Tuesday. The arrest of the accused, Isa Bakayoka, made in Nilje in Dombivili town, is part of intensified police efforts against drug trafficking in the region, he said.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Drugs of Rs 153 cr seized in Maharashtra in first 4 months of 2025: Fadnavis tells assembly
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday told the legislative assembly that 28,302 kilograms of drugs valued at Rs 153.25 crore were seized across the state between January and April 2025. He admitted that despite a ban on gutka and various tobacco products in the state, they continue to be sold at roadside stalls. In a written reply to a question asked by Kashinath Date (NCP) and others in the Lower House of the state legislature over the issue, Fadnavis said 5,001 cases have been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 4,481 persons have been arrested for trafficking, possession and consumption of drugs during this period.

Police have registered a case against three persons claiming to be associated with a placement agency in Navi Mumbai for allegedly cheating a man and his friend of Rs 8 lakh after promising them lucrative jobs in the shipping industry, officials said on Tuesday. The accused approached the 24-year-old man, hailing from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, between October 2024 and July 2025. They promised jobs to the man and his friend in the shipping industry and allegedly took Rs 8 lakh from them as recruitment and processing fees, an official said. However, neither the two persons got employment nor the accused return their money.

The march was organised under the aegis of the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to counter a protest staged by traders recently against the slapping of a food stall owner by MNS activists for not speaking Marathi, officials said.
