Maharashtra on Friday recorded three COVID-19 cases, which took the state`s tally to 81,37,103, while the death toll stood unchanged at 1,48,421, a health official said. The recovery count increased by 16 to touch 79,88,601, leaving the state with an active caseload of 81, he said. As per official data, the state`s recovery rate is 98.17 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.82 per cent. So far, 8,62,21,270 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the state, including 5,842 in the last 24 hours. (PTI)

The Bharatiya Janata Party`s Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar on Friday got a death threat through a letter that was received at his office in suburban Bandra, a police official said. The letter, written in indecent, intemperate language, was posted by an unidentified person, who asked the BJP MLA to keep quiet and not talk much or else he and and his kin would have bear the consequences, the official said. Former Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde on Friday batted for Sanskrit as the country`s official language, including for use in courts, and said even the architect of the Constitution and eminent jurist BR Ambedkar had proposed it as per media reports from 1949. He said Hindi and English are used as official languages in governance and courts as per law, while every chief justice receives representations seeking nod to introduce respective regional languages, which is now a reality in the district level judiciary and some high courts. Bobde was speaking at the Akhil Bhartiya Chhatra Sammellan organised by Sanskrit Bharti. (PTI)

Some districts of Maharashtra`s Marathwada region might get showers over the next 48 hours and see a dip in winter temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius, an official said on Friday. The change in weather is due to easterlies and westerlies, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada University meteorologist KK Dakhore said. "Rainfall is likely in Aurangabad on Saturday, and in Jalna and Nanded on Sunday. The minimum temperatures in Marathwada region might dip by 2-3 degrees Celsius," he said. (PTI)
