Healthcare workers around the world have been pulling out all the stops to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic that has infected scores of people and also kikked many.

Doctors, nurses and other medical staff who are on the forefront of the war against Covid-19 are being hailed as 'superheroes' for risking their lives on behalf of othe humans

As per the ordeals narrated by doctors and nurses on their social media accounts, some of them have been staying away from their families for months and working in towns and cities that have been declared as hotspots.

While battling personal qualms, they had to battle the professional qualms too. Many doctors, nurses, and other staff raised concerns about the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to treat patients.

In March, 29 staff including three doctors and 26 nurses working in Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai Central tested positive for Coronavirus.

The hospital has been shut since the detection of the cases and the BMC declared the area as a containment zone.

A 25-year-old nurse in Jaslok Hospital in Peddar Road tested positive in March after which around 10 to 15 people have been quarantined.

A helpline started by the doctors of Bombay Hospital that was launched around two weeks ago has already received more than 1 lakh phone calls from across the country with COVID-19 related queries. Consultant doctors from various departments of Bombay Hospital are part of the helpline service and apart from creating awareness, they hope to reduce the stress on the civic hospitals that already overburdened with screening and testing suspected patients.

Even as the number of positive COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Maharshtra, health workers are facing a new challenge. They claim that the civic body's inability to conduct the required number of tests has burdened medics and cops deployed at quarantine facilities across Mumbai.

It is really sad that despite putting their lives at risk, the medical workers have been subjected to attacks by people. Physical assault and stone pelting at doctors and cops in different parts of the country have been reported

In Latur, more than 500 deliveries have been conducted by the doctors at private hospitals here without PPE kits during the lockdown.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has made the use of personal protective equipment by hospital staff mandatory especially at the time of child deliveries and caesarian.

With doctors and nurses also becoming victims of the virus, medical practitioners who had taken a break from their professions, have been making a comeback to the field to help their colleagues fight the pandemic. Two of the famous personalities who announced their comeback to practicing medicine are Indian-origin Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar and Indian-origin Miss England 2019 Dr Bhasha Mukherjee.
