According to sources in the Western Railway the restoration work is being carried out and slow lines will be opened by 11 am
Owing to this, many train services were either cancelled or delayed leaving many commuters stranded and forcing others to use another mode of transport.
Earlier, train services on the Western Railway were severely affected after an empty bogie of a long distance train derailed between Elphinstone and Lower Parel railway stations.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted this morning, directing Western Railway officials to take swift action towards restoration.
The derailment occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday morning while the train was being shunted to the yard. No injures have been reported. The over head cables were also damaged in the process.
Slow trains have been diverted to fast track from Mumbai Central and Dadar.
