The last rites of acclaimed filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi took place on Sunday (September 23) in the presence of family, friends and loved ones. Lajmi, who was suffering from chronic kidney disease and liver failure, passed away Sunday morning. She was 64. Her younger brother, Dev Lajmi performed the last rites at Oshiwara Crematorium amidst a gathering of close friends and family members, including mother Lalita Lajmi.

From the flm industry, Shabana Azmi was one of the attendees to pay their last respects to Kalpana Lajmi.
Kalpana Lajmi, who was going through a financial crisis, was supported by several celebrities from the film industry in her final days, including Soni Razdan, Alia Bhatt, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar and Neena Gupta.

Soni Razdan, who was among the first ones to arrive, got emotional when the pyre was lit. "She has been suffering for a long time. But she fought very hard. Unfortunately her body couldn't handle it. I did speak to her last Sunday and we were supposed to meet on Wednesday, but she was readmitted to the ICU," Razdan told PTI.
Soni Razdan took to Instagram to mourn the death of writer-director Kalpana Lajmi. She wrote, "My dear darling Kalpana has passed on into another world. I will miss her strong energetic voice, her incredible drive to create, even after she got so sick, her laughter that was always so full of real joy and her wonderful sense of humour. Most of all I will miss my movie partner. Almost every Friday or Saturday we would go see the latest film running in town. I can't believe you're gone Kalpana. RIP sweetheart. (sic)"
A wreath was sent by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to pay respects to Kalpana Lajmi.

Shyam Bengal told PTI, "She was a niece of mine. She was a very fine filmmaker. She went through a long period of illness, it is tragic. She was much young to go."
Kalpana Lajmi made her directorial debut with the documentary, D.G. Movie Pioneer in 1978.
Known for making fiery films with women at the core of her stories, her filmography boasts of movies like Ek Pal, Rudaali, Daman, Darmiyaan and Chingaari(2006), her last directorial.
