The Hurun Report released the Hurun Global Rich List 2019 on February 27, 2019, a ranking of the US-Dollar billionaires in the world. While Amazon's Jeff Bezos topped the list for the second year in a row, it was all good news for India as business magnate Mukesh Ambani broke into the top 10 richest list globally with a net worth of 54 billion dollars. From Beijing emerging as the Billionaire Capital of the World to India accounting for only 4 per cent of the world’s known billionaires. On February 27, 2019, the Hurun Global Rich List 2019 came out and Business tycoon and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani created history as he broke into the top 10 richest list globally with a net worth of USD 54 billion. It is the first time ever in history that Mukesh Ambani broke into the top 10 list and accidentally, he is not only the only Indian but also the only Asian in the top 10 list. Mukesh Ambani also tops the list of Top 10 Richest Indians in the world!
The Hurun Global Rich List 2019 that was released on Wednesday was topped by Amazon chief Jeff Bezos for the second year in a row, while the Mukesh Ambani is placed 10th with a network of Rs 3.83 lakh crore. Interestingly, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2019, Bezos announced his divorce from Mackenzie Bezos, which has led to speculation that half his wealth could be shared with Mackenzie, jumping her straight into the world’s Top 10.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates ranks second in the global list of world's top 10 richest people. Bill who was third on the list last year is up by one place to second place this year all thanks to his fortune of 96 billion dollars which is up by 6 billion US dollars. Interestingly, Gates Gates’ wealth was based on significant stakes in Berkshire Hathaway, Waste Management Inc, Canadian National Railway, Walmart, Caterpillar as well as Microsoft.
Warren Buffet, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway with a net worth of USD 88 billion stands as the third richest man on earth today. Warren who was second on the list last year, dropped to the third spot this year with a decrease of 14 billion dollars in his wealth. This drop could probably be because, in 2018, Buffett gave away 3.4 billion dollars worth of Berkshire Hathaway stocks to five charities with the chief one them being the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
French business magnate, Bernard Arnault took away the fourth spot in the world's top 10 richest people list with a wealth of 86 billion dollars. Bernard is the founder of LVMH, which is the world's largest luxury-goods company. This was Bernard's high place ever in the Hurun Global Rich List. It was due to LVMH that kicked the trend with a 10 percent increase in sales to 54 billion dollars last year.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg with a net worth of USD 80 billion dollars slipped to the fifth position in the Hurun Global Rich List 2019. Last year, Mark was at the fourth place. Facebook was marred by Cambridge Analytic scandal, the controversy over privacy and criticized for enabling the spread of hate speech and fake news yet Mark's wealth was up by 1 billion dollars. Interestingly, at 34, Mark is by far the youngest of the Top 10 people on the list.
Mexican business tycoon, Carlos Slim was up by one place in this year's Hurun Global Rich List compared to the 7th place that he held last year. Carlos's wealth was a net worth of 66 billion dollars. From 2010 to 2013, Slim was ranked as the richest person in the world by the Forbes business magazine. He is known to be a significant shareholder of the New York Times and financial conglomerate Citigroup.
Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega stands at seventh place and is down by one place this year. Amancio has grabbed the sixth spot in the last year's Hurun Global Rich List. He is one of the richest men in Europe and the wealthiest retailer in the world. He is considered as one of the pioneers in fast fashion.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page:
Sergey Brin and Larry Page are the co-founders of Google. The duo made it to the top 10 richest list for the first time and have a net worth of 54 billion and 53 billion respectively.. iN 2018, Brin and Page celebrated the 20th anniversary of Google, which is a key asset of Alphabet that processes 40,000 search query a second. Larry with a net worth of 53 billion dollars stands at the 10th spot in the Hurun Global Rich List. While his partner, Sergey shares the 8th spot with Mukesh Ambani as the two have a net worth of 54 billion dollars.
Steel giant Lakshmi Mittal stood at the fifth position in the list of Top 10 Richest Indians in the world. In the list of countries with the most number of billionaires, India was ranked 5th with a total of 104 billionaires. According to the report by Hurun, it was a bad year for India, which lost 28 billionaires. While Mumbai and New Delhi emerged as the billionaire capitals of the country with 42 and 25 billionaires finding residence in the two metro cities.
Kotak Mahindra's Uday Kotak stands at the sixth place in the list of Top 10 Richest Indians in the world with a net worth of 11 billion dollars.
Uday was followed by Gautam Adani at seventh place with a net worth of 9.9 billion dollars and at the eight place with a net worth of 9.5 billion dollars was Sun Pharma's Dilip Shanghvi.
According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2019, Beijing emerged as the ‘Billionaire Capital of the World’ for the fourth year running with a staggering figure of 658 billionaires in Greater China alone. The report also says that China is the number 1 in the world in terms of generating self-made billionaires and is home to 77 percent of the world’s self-made female billionaires.

The Hurun Global Rich List 2019 also mentioned that media billionaires had a bad year. It was led by Zee's Subhash Chandra and Sun TV's Kalanithi Maran who lost their net worth substantially.

According to the list, Smita Crishna, the third- generation heir of the Godrej family, topped the female billionaire list with a net worth of USD 6.1 billion, while Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon is the richest self-made female entrepreneur ranked at 671 with a wealth of 3.5 billion dollars.
