Later on, Rhea Chakraborty auditioned to be a VJ and was selected for the job. Only if you are a Rhea Chakraborty fan, you would know that she has hosted Television shows such as Wassup, TicTac College Beat and Gone in 60 Seconds.
At age 20, Rhea Chakraborty made her acting debut with Telugu movie Tuneega Tuneega. She starred opposite Sumanth Ashwin. The film, however, failed to impress the audience at the Box Office.
In the consecutive year, Rhea Chakraborty made her Bollywood debut with Mere Dad Ki Maruti, opposite Saqib Saleem. Though the film got a mixed response from the audience, Rhea's debut went somewhat unnoticed.
But, with Sonali Cable, which released in 2014, Rhea Chakraborty got enough screen presence and grabbed eyeballs of the audience.
"I find acting more challenging. When you are a VJ, you can say whatever you want to and dress the way you want to. You basically play your own character. When you are an actor, you need to be in someone else's skin and make the audience fall in love with you," she had once told mid-day in an interview.
Rhea Chakraborty has seen success with Mere Dad Ki Maruti and saw failure with films like Sonali Cable, Bank Chor and Dobaraa: See Your Evil. However, she says she has learnt to be okay about failure.
Rhea Chakraborty says she doesn't look back at her movie choices and focuses on her future. "There are those times in everyone's life. But in terms of Bollywood, everyone knows when a film is a hit or a flop. So, everyone feels that low with you... The more and more I have been here I have started realising the fact that 'It's okay! it is just a film. I gave it my all and I will do it again"," she said.
Rhea Chakraborty loves her transition from TV to movies. Talking about the same she said, "When I look back at it, it feels like yesterday. Secondly, the fun part is that I got to do VJ-ing which was fun and came naturally to me. I felt acting is more challenging for me. You had to get into the skin of the character and be the character. There is a critic and then there is Friday... I enjoy the challenge and the process."
At a very young age itself, Rhea Chakraborty decided not to be a part of any film where women are projected in a bad light in the name of entertainment.
"There is a thin but strong line between presenting a woman in an entertaining manner and seeing her through the lens of a male chauvinist. I will certainly not take part in the latter. A film has a voice that gets heard by the maximum population as it is part of our popular culture," asserted Rhea firmly.
"While it is important to reflect the reality, unless we are creating more aspirational female characters to admire, we won't be able to change the mindset," she added further.
With Sonali Cable, Dobaara: See Your Evil, Bank Chor and Jalebi, she was not as visible as expected in mainstream big budget films. However, Rhea Chakraborty feels "maintaining visibility is not a big deal".
"I could have done some item songs to maintain that, but I choose not to. In between, I also got film offers that I did not take up. Later, they went on to become hit films. But I won't regret it as that was my decision then," reasoned Rhea Chakraborty.
On the personal front, Rhea Chakraborty was linked with several actors in the past. She was rumoured to be dating Aditya Roy Kapur in 2013, Harshvardhan Kapoor in 2017 and the latest being Sushant Singh Rajput.
Though none of the actors has admitted openly about their alleged relationship, gossip mongers affirm that Rhea and Sushant are more than just 'good' friends.
