Priyanka Chopra opted for a colourful yellow lehenga for her Mehendi ceremony, and Nick Jonas looked dapper in a white kurta-pyjama for the ceremony. The respective families of the bride and the groom including Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra, brother Siddharth and cousins Parineeti and Mannara Chopra and Nick's parents Paul Kevin Sr and Denise, brother Kevin and his wife Danielle, and brother Joe and his fiancee Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner reached Jodhpur on Thursday.
The entire luxury hotel was booked for the wedding guests. Priyanka and Nick never shied away from documenting their love on social media since they went public with the relationship in July this year, but they decided to keep their wedding a private affair. While the guests were asked not to bring mobile phones with the camera at the venue, the entry to the palace was strictly restricted to an invitation.
Apart from the family members, Mukesh Ambani with his wife Nita, daughter Isha and sons Akash and Anant attended the wedding. YouTuber Lilly Singh aka Superwoman, Elizabeth Chambers, wife of actor Armie Hammer, British singer and actor Jasmin Walia were present at the ceremony. Salman Khan's sister Arpita also attended the wedding with son Ahil. Bollywood's favourite wedding couturier Sabyasachi was also spotted among the guests. Nick proposed Priyanka on her 36th birthday and then they flew down to India for a traditional 'roka' ceremony held in August.
They also incorporated a friendly cricket match, competing as "team bride vs team groom". As for the sangeet, a video and photographs shared by Priyanka suggest it was no less than a Bollywood awards night complete with a stage, elaborate light set-up and props as well as energetic performances.
After treating the audience with beautiful and candid glimpses from her mehendi ceremony, Priyanka Chopra also released some magical moments from her sangeet ceremony. The delightful moments have Nick Jonas along with his family dancing and competing with each other. However, later everything translated to a great bond between the families.
Priyanka Chopra took to her Instagram account to share these heartfelt memories. Along with it, she wrote: "It all began as a fierce song & dance competition between the families but ended, as always, as a huge celebration of love. Nick and I were looking forward to the Sangeet (Musical evening), another pre-wedding ritual.. and to see what each side had put together."
Parineeti Chopra also penned an emotional note as her cousin, actress Priyanka Chopra married American singer Nick Jonas. She is happy about how the culturally different families of the bride and groom have united. Sharing a picture from Priyanka's Mehendi on Instagram, Parineeti welcomed Nick to her family and is all praise for her "jiju" (brother-in-law).
"One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other. And so, planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the mehendi. Once again we made it our own, and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed."
One of the guests told mid-day, "The functions started as early as 8 am on December 30. The ceremonies kicked off with a puja; Nick was intrigued as he joined his bride for the Mauli ceremony [where the sacred thread is tied on the wrists of the groom and bride]. Priyanka's brother Siddharth was constantly by the Jonas' side, explaining the significance of each ritual to them. Priyanka even indulged in a quick haldi ceremony before enjoying the chura ceremony in the afternoon. As per the custom, her uncle gifted her 21 bangles which were bathed in milk and rose petals. Her friends, including Arpita Khan Sharma, Srishti Behl Arya, Anjula Acharia and cousin Parineeti Chopra, followed it up by tying kalide."
The Hindu wedding started at 6 pm after the Sehrabandi puja, where a family member of the groom ties the turban. The source added, "A cheer went up among the guests as the bride and groom came face-to-face at the mandap. Priyanka teared up during the jaimala session."
The guest reveals that the white wedding on Saturday was just as exquisite, with the groom dedicating a song to his better half. "The bride and the groom wrote their own vows. It was followed by a beautiful speech by Priyanka's mother. PeeCee turned emotional during the speech as she missed her father sorely." It is heard that the Christian wedding was followed by a five- course meal, prepared by chefs who were handpicked by the couple. "Since PeeCee loves flowers, each table was named after a specific flower."
The couple first began talking in 2016 via Twitter and met in person for the first time at a party for the Academy Awards in 2017. A successful Bollywood star, Priyanka made a transition to American showbiz as the lead in crime drama Quantico, eventually landing a role in the Baywatch film. Nick and his brothers Kevin and Joe are known for having formed a pop-rock band, The Jonas Brothers, in 2005. The band split up in 2013.
