The son of filmmaker David Dhawan, Varun Dhawan entered Bollywood with the multi-starrer Student of the Year in 2012 along with Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra
Varun Dhawan then went on to experiment with his craft by doing films like Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badlapur, ABCD 2 and Dilwale

In an interview with mid-day, Govinda had alleged his former bestie, filmmaker David Dhawan turned his back on him when his chips were down. The inevitable topic popped up when we caught up with Varun Dhawan during the promotions of Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Ask him if he felt hurt by Govinda's remarks, Varun Dhawan says, "Govinda sir is years senior to me. I hold him in high regard. [But] To each his own. I won't comment if he was wrong. Varun Dhawan stepped into Salman Khan's shoes for the sequel to 1997 hit comedy caper Judwaa
Varun Dhawan received a surprise package from Salman Khan before Judwaa 2 shoot began. On opening it, he found a bunch of baggy denim pants with a note
"Just a day before the shoot started, I received a carton full of Salman bhai's jeans. He later called to say the pants will match my tapori character. It was a sweet gesture," Varun Dhawan gushes
Recalling a funny anecdote from the trial show of Judwaa, Varun Dhawan says, "Salman bhai was standing outside [the set], wearing a ganjee and shorts. And I addressed him as Salman uncle. He said, 'I will slap you if you call me that. Call me bhai or else I won't allow you inside'"
While comparisons with Salman Khan are inevitable, director David Dhawan, who had also helmed the first part, says there cannot be another Salman, "No one can match up to him, not even my son. His dedication is unparalleled"
Varun Dhawan says, "The pressure of working with my father is more than that of reprising Salman's role because the expectations skyrocket and people look at us as a father-son jodi. Looking at his box office record, he is probably the most successful director I am working with in my career so far. So, I don't want to fail my father"
Varun Dhawan seems pretty confident about his skills. Varun won the Best Actor in A Comedy Role Award for Dishoom at the Screen awards in 2016
"My father has been associated with comedy, so winning an award for that surely makes him proud. Comedy cannot be taught to an actor. It is all about timing. Either you have it or you don't," Varun Dhawan says
Varun Dhawan says he would like all his films to have a message. "At this point in my career, I want to make sure that every film I do sends across a message, be it social or something about brotherly love or friendship like most of my father's films have had," he said
For a song in his last film, Judwaa 2, Varun Dhawan was required to shave his legs
However, Varun Dhawan outright refused to shave his legs, saying that it was 'not necessary'. Daddy David Dhawan, who's directing the sequel to the 1997 Salman Khan-starrer, agreed with Varun
