Dutt, the son of legendary actor Sunil Dutt made his acting debut as a child in his father's film Reshma Aur Shera before debuting as the male lead opposite Tina Ambani with 1981 film Rocky. He is known to have established the Prithvi Theatre, a haven for theatre actors in Mumbai. He passed away in 2017.

They popular starred together Chalti Ka Naam Gadi, which also starred his future wife Madhubala. His notable starring roles are in the films Ladki, Naukari, Baap Re Baap, Paisa Hi Paisa, New Delhi among many others. He passed away in 1987.
