More skeletons tumbled out of the closet with actor Vindu Dara Singhu2019s arrest for his alleged involvement with bookies which, in turn, lead to Gurunath Meiyappan, the team principal of CSK, also being held on betting charges. The tall Jamaican hit a 30-ball hundred against Pune Warriors. Chris Gayle hit 11 maximums and eight boundaries on his way to reaching the fastest-ever hundred in cricket history. He ultimately scored an unbeaten 175 off 66 deliveries, that included a record 13 fours and 17 sixes. Interestingly, 154 out of his 175 runs came in boundaries and that too off only 30 scoring strokes. Gayle also recorded the highest-ever individual score in a T20 game.

Amit Mishra of Sunrisers Hyderabad created history by claiming his third hat-trick in the IPL during a league match against Pune Warriors. Mishra picked up four wickets in five balls as Pune collapsed from 101 for four to 108 all out chasing 120. Sunil Narineu2019s hat-trick for Kolkata Knight Riders against Kings XI Punjab came in a losing cause. In the same match, Pollard and Watson were involved in a verbal duel. It started when Pollard said something to Watson who had just come out to bat, and a miffed Australian all-rounder retorted, leading to a verbal spat. Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Gautam Gambhir and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli had a heated argument during a match held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore early in the tournament. After being dismissed in the game, Kohli, instead of trudging back to the pavilion, walked towards Gambhir and the other Kolkata players, who were celebrating his dismissal, and apparently made a remark. Suddenly, Gambhir was seen walking angrily towards his junior India teammate. The Wankhede crowd is not renowned for its well-mannered behaviour, and Kohli got a taste of the same during Bangaloreu2019s clash against Mumbai. In the match, Mumbai batsman Ambati Rayudu got out in a bizarre fashion after his bat collided with R Vinay Kumaru2019s leg as the bowler tried to collect the throw. This is when a direct hit from Kohli hit the stumps and Rayudu was short of his ground. The crowd did not like what they saw, termed Kohli a u2018cheatu2019, and booed him constantly. The young South African played some unbelievable knocks for Kings XI Punjab over the course of the season, but none better than the 38-ball 101 he smashed against Bangalore at Mohali. A few matches in the tournament, and it was clear that this would be Adam Gilchristu2019s last IPL. And although Punjab did not make it to the play-offs, Gilchrist had a fairy tale farewell. His side defeated Mumbai in their last league clash, and when Gilly ditched the keeping gloves and chose to bowl the last over of the match, he got Harbhajan Singh out with his first ball. This was followed by the Aussieu2019s version of the u2018Gangnamu2019 style as Bhajji got a dose of his own medicine

The captaincy changed hands in many franchises. Ricky Ponting sat out after failing in the initial few games for Mumbai Indians, and Rohit Sharma stepped in seamlessly, leading the side to their maiden IPL triumph. Kumar Sangakkara opted to warm the benches for a few matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad while Cameron White replaced him as skipper. Kings XI Punjabu2019s Adam Gilchrist also readily stepped aside following his poor run of scores, allowing David Hussey to take over in the interim. The Kolkata batsman created history of unwanted sorts, becoming the first batsman in IPL history to be out obstructing the field. In a do-or-die match against Pune, Pathan had blazed his way to 72. He wanted to take a single which his partner Debabrata Das refused. Realising the ball was on the pitch, Pathan kicked it away from the bowler, leading to an appeal from Pune. You never saw it before, you might never see it again. In a bizarre occurrence, Pollard dropped Hussey thrice in a row at point when Mumbai took on Chennai at Wankhede. This happened during the first three deliveries of Chennaiu2019s innings bowled by Mitchell Johnson u2013 the first one being the toughest, the second chance a little easier and the final one being the easiest.
