This is reportedly the first such case registered according to the newly passed Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Human Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Ordinance 2013.

The suspects have been identified as Maulana Sayyad Aalam and a woman Hamida Ayub Shaikh, both residents of Shanti Nagar in Vishrantwadi area.

The girl's mother lodged the complaint in this case at the Vishrantwadi police station.

Hamida was arrested late Thursday night while Maulana is still at large.

According to police, Maulana and Hamida allegedly developed contact with the girl about 15 days before.

They told her that they wanted a girl with long hair and who would sit with naked body for performing some ritual. They allegedly promised to give Rs 3 lakh to the girl if she agrees for it.

But, when the girl's mother got to know about it, she approached the police and filed a complaint against the suspects. A team of Vishrantwadi police rushed to Shanti Nagar and took Hamida Shaikh into custody.

Police have also invoked section 354 of the Indian Penal Code against the suspects for allegedly molesting the victim girl.

Police Inspector Sudhakar Kate of Vishrantwadi police station said “Hamida has been arrested but Maulana Sayyad Aalam is on the run. We have launched search for him.We are probing the motive of the suspects behind luring the victim girl hailing from a poor family based at Yerawada. The relation between Maulana and Hamida is also being probed.”
