Three days after a four-year-old girl was found raped and murdered in Mankhurd, the police have arrested an addict who admitted he had raped the minor because drugs turned him into a compulsive sex maniac. He told the police that this sexual drive had led him to rape hundreds of animals as well.

On March 7, the four-year-old girl’s body was found in the bushes near the Mankhurd T-junction on Sion-Panvel Highway. She had gone missing from Mankhurd station the day before. Her mother had filed a complaint with the Mankhurd police saying she had seen the man offering chocolates to her daughter, and she could identify him.
According to Mankhurd Police sources, the arrested accused is Sachin Gopinath Pachane, a daily wage labourer. Pachane had kidnapped the girl while her mother was busy shopping, and took her to the bushes. He stuffed paper in her mouth to stop her screams as he raped her. As the girl kept yelling, Pachane strangled her to death.
It was while talking to the mother that the cops realised she could identify the culprit, as she had shooed him away when he tried to offer her daughter chocolates. The police also found CCTV footage from Sheetal beer bar, which is 100 metres from the crime scene. The CCTV tapes show the accused carrying the girl on his shoulder but since his image was not too clear, the mother could not identify him. From his appearance and gait, the police suspected he was a drug addict, so they began to round up all junkies in the area. On Wednesday night, as the cops showed the mother a line-up of the suspects, she pointed out Pachane to them and he was arrested.
“The accused has confessed to his crime and said he is a pervert and would regularly visit commercial sex workers, eunuchs, homosexuals. In case he didn’t have money for sex workers, he would have sex with animals too. He stays at Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd,” said Senior PI Nasir Sheikh, from Mankhurd police station.
The accused was booked under various sections of IPC, including rape and murder, and was also charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Since he has admitted he is a sexual deviant, the cops are investigating whether he was involved in two other recent attacks on minors at Powai and Dharavi.
