B-Town debutants who struggled to make it big

Vaani Kapoor, Nimrat Kaur, Tanishaa Mukerji

Bollywood has no dearth of new entrants — what with film star sons and daughters as also TV actors and beauty pageant winners trying their luck in this industry. And while making an impact with a film can be challenging, getting another project to keep the career going isn’t easy either. Some see their career take off smoothly while others to have wait longer. HitList takes a look at actresses who landed a big Hindi film but haven’t kept the momentum going with similarly plum roles.

Vaani Kapoor
Vaani Kapoor
Known for her role in: 'Shuddh Desi Romance' (2013)
Current status: When you’re starring alongside a bubbly actress such as Parineeti Chopra, it’s difficult to hog screen time. However, this debutante did manage to win praise for her work in this love triangle. Right now, she has no Bollywood projects in hand and is busy with cinema projects in the South film industry.

Sneha Ullal
Sneha Ullal

Known for her role in: 'Lucky: No Time for Love' (2005)
Current status: This Aishwarya Rai lookalike had a dream debut opposite Salman Khan. Following which, she starred in Sohail Khan’s Aryan which faced problems before it could release. Since then, she has been working in the South film industry. There’s a buzz that she’s keen on making a Bollywood comeback.

Tanishaa Mukerji
Tanisha Mukerji

Known for her role in: 'Neal 'N' Nikki' (2005)
Current status: Her filmography is marked by forgettable films that either released after much delay or didn’t release at all. The only film that marked her foray into Bollywood as a leading actress was opposite Uday Chopra. And it was a dud. Post that, she hasn’t bagged another lead role.

Nimrat Kaur

Known for her role in: 'The Lunchbox' (2013)
Current status: Despite delivering one of the finest performances of the year, there’s no word about her second film. It seems that she is still reading scripts and is yet to sign on the dotted line. It may be pointed out here that though Vasan Bala’s 2012 film Peddlers stars her, it hasn’t found a commercial release yet.

Pooja Salvi
Known for her role in: 'Nautanki Saala' (2013)
Current status: Very few actresses manage to move from commercials to big screen, but Pooja belonged to this set. This model-turned-actress was paired opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in the romantic comedy, Nautanki Saala. But post that there hasn’t been any word on her next film.

Amy Jackson

Current status: Post her debut opposite then-boyfriend Prateik Babbar, this young actress has shifted base to South India in order to continue working in films.

Pallavi Sharda

Known for her role in: 'Besharam' (2013)
Current status: Following a handful of films in which she played second fiddle to the main starcast, Pallavi landed a big project when she bagged Besharam opposite Ranbir Kapoor. And while she is yet to star in another Bollywood film, latest buzz has it that she has signed a Tamil film.

Zarine Khan
Zarine Khan
Known for her role in:
'Housefull 2' (2012)
Current status: She debuted with Veer (2010) and followed it up with a small role in Ready (2011) and a plum role in Sajid Khan’s comedy caper, Housefull 2, the next year. But in 2013, audiences didn’t see her on the big screen.
