>> Born in Hisar in Haryana, Saina was brought up in Hyderabad. Her parents are both former State Badminton Champions.
>> Her ranking touched a high of World No 2 in 2010 and dropped to No 6 in 2011. She, however, re-entered the top 5 in the year 2011. Currently, she is placed at rank 2 again.
>> She is a brown belt in Karate. But she quit at the age of 8, as she was asked to have a bike run over her stomach.
>> She was one of the eight brand ambassadors at the Commonwealth Games 2010 that were held in New Delhi.
>> She has won 1 gold medal and 3 bronze medals overall in the Commonwealth Games.
>> She became the first Indian woman to reach the quarter finals at Beijing Olympic Games. She also won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
>> She received the Arjuna Award in 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2009-10 and the Padma Shri in 2010.
>> Every time she wins a big tournament, she indulges herself with ice cream.
