BMC's crack down continues against eateries flouting rules in Mumbai

The BMC's drive against illegal shops, establishments and restaurants continued for the second day on Tuesday with heavy crackdown in the Western suburbs.


The team cracked down on various establishments including MM Mithaiwala in Malad, Mainland China and Kailash Parbat in Kurla.


After a fire in Kurla's City Kinara restaurant killed 8 young lives on Friday, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta came down heavily on defaulters. He ordered strict action against restaurants and commercial establishments that do not have the necessary compliances.


On Monday, action was taken against several such restaurants across all wards. The crackdown continued on Tuesday.

According to data received from the BMC, officials inspected 225 restaurants across the city, of which action was taken against sweveral prominent restaurants.

The officials also acted against eateries like Delhi Darbar in B ward, Sadanand and Hotel Grant Road in D ward, Gypsy, Chandragupta, China Spice, Kohinoor in Dadar, Mainland China, Kailash Parbat in Kurla and a Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) in N ward.

Extensions were demolished in 14 hotels and 24 gas cylinders seized.

Similar action was taken in Andheri east against 14 establishments.
