Hansal Mehta’s latest film, Citylights, has collected Rs 3.5crore in the first weekend of its release. Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani says, “Citylights started on slow note on Friday, but it picked up on Saturday and Sunday. The IPL final did affect the film’s business but it has done decent business. Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi barely crossed the Rs 1crore mark at the box office.”

What’s interesting is that Mehta’s latest offering has done better than his National Award-winning film, Shahid. However trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels that the business of the film was not upto expectations. He says, “The film would have done better if it was feel good cinema. Citylights is a good film and has won critical acclaim but that has not really translated into similarly encouraging business that one would’ve expected. X Men: Days of Future Past, on the other hand, has fared better in its second week than Citylights in its first week.’’
Meanwhile, Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti has collected around Rs 42 crore at the box office. An exhibitor says, “Apart from the music being a hit, it was Tiger’s dancing and action sequences that appealed to the audiences.”
