A 29-year-old woman police constable was assaulted and molested by an alleged Shiv Sena supporter in Thane on Thursday afternoon.
The accused, who has been identified as Shashikant Kalgude 44, a residence of Tulsidham, Dharmaveer Nagar in Thane owns a Vada Pav stall, is believed to be member of Shiv Sena party and has been arrested.

The woman constable, who is with Thane's Wagle Estate traffic unit for the last two years, was on duty under the Eastern Express Highway flyover near Nitin Junction in Thane from 10 am to 1 pm. At around 11:15am she noticed the accused driving his SUV (A Scorpio with license plate: MH 06 BE 7340) while talking on his cell phone.
The constable gestured Kalgude to stop his vehicle but he tried to dodge her, until she came in front of the SUV to stop him.
When the constable asked him to show his driving licence and the vehicle's documents, Kalgude started abusing her. He then slapped and punched her so hard that her nose started to bleed.
"The woman in her statement to the police alleged that the accused stopped his vehicle and started abusing her. He got down from the vehicle and pushed the constable. He hitting her on her shoulder. Later he slapped the constable more than twice. He than caught the name plate of the woman and sexaully assualted her," said a police officer from Naupada police station.
The woman constable was accompanied by a home guard at the junction. "A advocate along with four more people caught hold of the accused and informed the police. We have around five witnesses in public who are eyewitnesses in the case," said a police officer.
Senior Police Inspector M Bagga, Naupada police station, said, "We have arrested him for assualting a woman police constable and sexually assualting her. A case was registered in the afternoon and he was produced in court on Thursday afternoon and remaned to police custody for a day. The woman has suffered injuries on her nose."
Kalgude has been arrested and booked under sections 353, 332, 354 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
