Kozhikode: Four persons, who allegedly engaged in online betting during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab, have been arrested. Harshad (42), Shamsu (45), Ifsul Rehman (34) and Mohammed Rasheed (31), all businessmen, were arrested last night from a rented building here, police said.


Police have seized six mobile phones, computers and Rs 5.02 lakh from them. The raid on the premises was conducted following information received by North Assistant commisisoner, K Ashraf. A team led by Nadakavu Circle Inspector Moosa Vallikkadan and Sub Inspector G Gopakumar made the arrest, police told PTI.


A case under provisions of the Kerala Gaming Act has been registered against them. They were later released on bail.


The modus operandi was that they would log in to an All Indian betting site as soon as the IPL matches commenced and start betting, police added. In yesterday's match at Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kings XI Punjab by five wickets.
