A 40-year-old dance teacher was arrested in Versova after one of his female students complained that he had molested her under the pretext of giving her special classes.

The accused, Manish Satpute, runs a dance studio in Versova where the complainant would regularly attend lavni classes. Both are 40 years old and are married with children.

On Friday, he allegedly asked her to wait after the class so he could teach her some special moves. Using that as the pretext, he put his hands around her waist and also touched her private parts.

According to the police, the woman was afraid and decided to never go back to class. She went to the Versova police station and lodged an FIR against Satpute, and the police arrested him the same day.

“We arrested the teacher, Satpute, after a probe revealed that he had allegedly molested the woman. There were no other students present in the institute at the time of the incident,” said an officer from the Versova police.

Sources in the police revealed that the accused and victim knew each other well.

The woman told the police that he would often look for excuses to touch her during the class and would also ask her to stay back afterward.

She alleged that he had made sexual advances towards her several times, but she always rejected his offer.

“On the basis of the complaint, we have booked the accused for sexual harassment and he was sent to judicial custody,” said KV Kaale, senior inspector attached with Versova police station.
