Mumbai Crime: Druggies stone 18-year-old to death

Six drug addicts allegedly stoned a teenager till he died, after robbing him of his money, mobile phone and other valuables. The murder was registered at the Malvani police station, after the body was discovered on Monday morning by a passer-by.

According to the Malvani police, the 18-year-old’s body had been lying on Kachcha Road, near the Jhunka Bhakar Kendra in the Gate No 7 area of Malvani since morning yesterday. Locals called the police, who reached the spot immediately. Till evening, the body remained unidentified until one Sajeet Bhagat (19) came to the police. He told them the deceased was his brother Manjeet.

Evening stroll gone bad
Sajeet told the police the brothers worked in a nearby factory and also stayed there. On Sunday evening, Manjeet had gone for an evening walk with his friend Anuj Kumar. When the duo was returning, a gang of six drug addicts accosted them and demanded money. While Kumar managed to flee the spot, Manjeet was trapped.

The druggies stripped Manjeet of all his cash and mobile phones. They later took him beside the road and started assaulting him on the head, face and chest with huge stones. The attacks continued till Manjeet died of his injuries. The gang then escaped from the spot.

The deceased’s body was found with a stone lying on his chest, and another stone beside it. Preliminary post-mortem reports revealed that Manjeet had been bashed to death with huge stones. A Malvani police official said that while the murderers were still unidentified, they would be nabbed soon.
