Mumbai Crime: Teens catch man raping dog, kill him in fit of anger

For years, residents of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi thought of Ramashankar Dubey (48) as a gentleman who helped people out and did his bit for animals as well, by feeding stray dogs in the area. If two teenagers are to be believed, however, Dubey was allegedly hiding a rather sinister side behind that mask.

He allegedly raped puppies and full-grown dogs. The two teenagers, who are animal lovers aged 15 and 17, found Dubey engaged in bestiality with a street dog in the wee hours of Friday. The boys confronted him, the conversation got heated and they hit him with bamboo sticks, leading to his death. The teens are now in the Dongri children’s home.

Body found
According to the Shivaji Nagar police, they got a call around 8 am on Friday that a dead body had been found on a footpath in their jurisdiction. The team rushed to the spot and took the body to the Rajawadi Hospital.

Post-mortem reports revealed that the man had died due to a head injury. “The body was instantly identified as the people residing in the vicinity knew Dubey well. However, the reason why he was killed was yet to be ascertained,” said an officer from Shivaji Nagar police station.

On Saturday, as part of the investigations, two minors from the area were brought to the police station, and they confessed to the crime. “The youths claimed that, in the wee hours of Friday, they saw Dubey raping a stray dog in the middle of the road.

Being animal lovers, this act offended them. The duo confronted Dubey and assaulted him with bamboo sticks to teach him a lesson,” added an officer. Cops alleged that the deceased had been staying alone since his parents passed away 10 years ago.

“The locals claimed that he had a very good image, as he was very helpful to people and always gave biscuits and food to stray dogs. Everyone thought that Dubey was fond of dogs, but lately some of the youths in the area suspected that he engaged in cruel acts with puppies,” the officer added.

Two puppies had been found dead in the area recently, and the two teenagers had suspected that Dubey was behind their deaths. The youths told the police that they just wanted to teach Dubey a lesson and didn’t intend to kill him. After the assault, they allegedly sat next to his body for hours, hoping he would get up.

Senior Police Inspector Balasaheb Jadhav, from Shivaji Nagar police station, confirmed the matter and added that the teens claimed to have recorded a video of Dubey’s act, which they are yet to recover. He said that further investigation is in progress. The accused have been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. They were produced in the holiday court on Sunday and have been sent to the Dongri children’s home.
