She was worried about who would pay household expenses if he was arrested
The MHB police have arrested a 48-year-old man, who has allegedly been raping his stepdaughter (14) since the two years. The man, a plumber by profession, is a resident of Dahisar (west).
The survivor’s mother knew about the crime, but preferred to keep quiet because she was worried about who would bear the household expenses if her husband were arrested. According to police sources, the survivor is studying in Std 8. The accused has two wives — he fathered seven kids in the first marriage. His first wife stays at his native place. He and his second wife live in Dahisar with the survivor. Her father had died, and her mother married the accused. Police said he would rape the 14-year-old when her mother was out for daily chores.

Police said the survivor had complained to her mother when her stepfather first began raping her two years ago. But the survivor’s mother did not inform the police.
Produced in court
On Sunday, the survivor managed to inform her neighbours about the sexual harassment her stepfather was subjecting her to, and they informed the police.
Police arrested the accused immediately under Section 376 of the IPC and various sections of the POCSO Act. He was produced in the Dindoshi sessions court yesterday where he was remanded to police custody.
