The government is likely to start the process of installing CCTV cameras across the city from October 30, said a highly-placed official from Mantralaya yesterday.

As many as 64 companies, some of them from the US and Israel, have shown keen interest in the Rs 350-crore project. The firms have submitted their proposals for installing around 2,000 CCTV cameras in the first phase.

The government has decided to extend the deadline for the submission of the bids by a week, so that some more competent companies could participate in the bidding process, the official said.

The Congress-led government took on the job on war footing soon after the July 13 bomb blasts.
