Queen Elizabeth II sent her first tweet yesterday from @BritishMonarchy account, which was opened in 2009 to share news about the Royal Family.

She signed off as ‘Elizabeth R’, which is how she signs official documents.
The R stands for regina, which is Latin for queen.
The 88-year-old at the launch of a new gallery in London’s Science Museum tweeted: “I hope people will enjoy visiting the exhibition.”
