Supreme Court appoints former Indian captain as working president of the BCCI only for the IPL matches; Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals allowed to play IPL

New Delhi: The Supreme Court installed batting legend Sunil Gavaskar as the interim head of India's troubled Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Friday in place of the scandal-tainted incumbent N. Srinivasan.
Gavaskar would be made "interim working president" of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the court said, adding that the appointment would place him in overall charge of the upcoming edition of the annual Indian Premier League (IPL) which begins next month.

The court said that Gavaskar would have to cease his work as a television commentator to avoid any conflict of interest, adding that the BCCI must "adequately compensate" Gavaskar for loss of earnings as a result.
Meanwhile, the rest of the functions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would be discharged by its senior most vice president, Shivlal Yadav
The court also said that the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- two teams at the centre of investigations into illegal betting and spot-fixing -- would be allowed to take part in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL 7).
Supreme Court also stated that Sunil Gavaskar will decide whether Sundar Raman, CEO of IPL, shall continue or some other person has to be engaged.
The BCCI had stated to the Supreme Court that Mahendra Singh Dhoni never made a statement that Gurunath Meiyappan was just a cricket enthusiast.
Supreme Court also refused to pass any order for allowing N. Srinivasan to participate in activities of ICC.
The Supreme Court also barred all those associated with Srinivasan's India Cements company from functioning in BCCI.
Judges had said on Thursday that both sides should be barred from the eight-team tournament which is to start in Abu Dhabi on April 16.
