“The 59-year-old woman, Sarita Palande, was diagnosed with dengue haemorrhage fever. The volume of blood inside the body started falling, as she was bleeding internally,” said Dr Jitendra Pawar at Life Care Hospital.

“My mother-in-law had mild fever last week but recovered within two days, and was doing absolutely fine. On Monday, she seemed a little weak, so we hospitalised her. Despite trying all possible treatment, we couldn’t avert the unfortunate,” said Dr Vaishali Palande, her daughter-in-law.

“Platelet replacement and corticosteroid therapy did not improve her platelet count. Soon she was weak and stopped responding to treatments,” added Dr Pawar. Speaking to mid-day, R T Kendre, Thane Municipal Corporation’s medical officer said, “Out of three tests NS1, IGG, IGM only one IGG was reactive, while the other two were negative.

On this basis, we may say there is a possibility of mixed infections, resulting in thrombocytopenia. So there is still a question mark on the cause of death.” He added, “I will call the doctor who treated Mrs Palande to discuss the case.”
