In a video that has gone viral, a woman, believed to be in her early 20s, is seen being brutally assaulted by three to four lady constables at Lalbaugcha Raja.

The reason for the assault is yet to be ascertained, but preliminary investigations reveals that the victim, Nandini Deepak Goswami who is a Mira Road resident, had come for the darshan of 'Lalbaugcha Raja' and was trying to gate crash from the VIP entry, when she was caught and assaulted.

An officer from Kalachowkie police station, requesting anonymity, said, "The footages which have gone viral show only one side of the story – what happened inside the gate. But, in her attempt to get inside, Goswami misbehaved with those cops. She had been threatening them that she is a black belt in karate and had been abusing the three women constables constantly. So, the three women cops got angry and took her to the police station."

A video grab of the incident

The victim was brought to the Kalachowkie police station at 2 am on Saturday morning and charged Rs 1200 under section 110 (punishment of abetment if person abetted does act with different intention from that of abettor) of the Indian Penal code.

Another grab from the video

Senior police inspector Dilip Ugale from Kalchowkie police station said, "The zonal DCP Ashok Dhude has called for an inquiry, and we have to submit a report in two days. We shall be calling the victim and the three constables to the police station to record their statements. We shall also check the CCTV footages of the spot, which were attached at the pandal.”

Ugale confirmed that the victim Goswami was brought to the police station and charged Rs 1200 for her misconduct.

Every year, Lalbaug is hit with controversies. Just a day back, it was reported that a lady scribe was assaulted by Lalbaug workers. Also, a senior citizen died while she was standing at the queue for the feet-touching darshan.
