For Krunal Pandya, style has never been about expensive labels or keeping up with trends. The cricketer, who recently collaborated with the Phoenix Shopping League, believes confidence comes from comfort and authenticity. In an exclusive conversation with mid-day, Krunal opens up about how fatherhood has changed the way he shops, why his wife Pankhuri is the biggest influence on his wardrobe, and why creating memories matters more than making grand gestures.
When it comes to fashion, Krunal doesn't hesitate to admit that his wife Pankhuri Pandya has the final say. The former model has become his biggest style influence, but the all-rounder insists comfort will always come before trends.
"My wife Pankhuri!" he says when asked who influences his wardrobe. "Otherwise, I don't really follow anyone in particular. I believe in being comfortable and wearing what feels like me. I've always felt confidence matters more than following trends. If you're comfortable in what you're wearing, it naturally reflects in the way you carry yourself."
That same practical mindset extends to his shopping habits as well. Unlike those who spend hours browsing stores, Krunal describes himself as someone who likes to get in, buy what he needs and leave. "I'm definitely a 'walk in, grab what I need, and walk out' kind of person. I think cricket teaches you to make quick decisions and trust them. I guess that habit has carried over into my shopping as well."
The cricketer also says living in both Ahmedabad and Mumbai has shaped his approach to spending. While Ahmedabad taught him the importance of getting the best deal, Mumbai introduced him to premium brands and experiences. Still, he believes value matters far more than labels.
While many athletes are known to splurge on sneakers, luxury watches or gadgets, Krunal says becoming a father has completely changed his priorities.
"I wouldn't call myself a big shopper, but I like buying things that have a purpose. These days, most of our shopping is for the family and done by my wife Pankhuri. My last purchase was probably something for my boys. Becoming a parent has definitely changed the way I shop. Watching them get excited over the smallest things makes every shopping trip a lot more special."
Krunal also reflected on the romantic proposal that made headlines years ago, when he proposed to Pankhuri at 2 am with his IPL trophy beside him. Looking back, he says he wouldn't do anything dramatically different today.
"I think I'd keep it simple. The gesture doesn't matter as much as the person you're sharing the moment with; the rest becomes an add-on. I also think the best memories are never about expensive gestures; they're about creating a moment you'll both remember forever."
