Weeks after Kapil Sharma's Canadian cafe, Kap's Cafe, was involved in a firing incident, the doors have now been reopened to guests. The actor-comedian has responded to the incident for the first time through his personal social media handle. Along with his wife Ginni Chatrath, Kapil addressed the incident and shared a video of officials visiting the cafe.
Recently, Kap's Cafe was visited by British Columbia's Mayor Brenda Locke and several police officers. They were graciously hosted by the cafe staff. While sharing the clip, Kapil and his wife wrote:
"Thank you Mayor Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We're truly grateful."
On July 10, several gunshots were fired outside Kap's Cafe in Surrey at around 1:50 am (local time), according to Surrey Police Service. Some staff members were present inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, no one was injured. At least 10 bullet holes were seen in one of the cafe's windows, and another windowpane was shattered. The building that houses the cafe includes retail units on the ground level and residential apartments above. It is unclear how many residents currently live in the building.
The premises also include a multi-faith centre and two yet-to-be-opened businesses. Officers were seen gathering evidence from the restaurant while children played across the street near a daycare, now cordoned off with police tape, as reported by Vancouver Sun.
The staff of Kap's Cafe described the incident as "heartbreaking" and said they were "shocked" by the unexpected shooting at the restaurant. The cafe extended its heartfelt thanks to the community for the outpouring of support and expressed gratitude to the Surrey Police for their assistance.
Kap's Cafe also shared a long, emotional statement after the incident.
A Message From the Heart
"We opened Kap's Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation.
To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up."
The statement emphasized the cafe's resolve to stand "firm" against violence and continue being a symbol of "warmth and community."
"Thank you for your support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we're building together. Let's stand firm against violence and ensure Kap's Cafe remains a place of warmth and community."
