Colombian pop star Shakira has reached out to her home country after a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, leaving communities shaken and authorities assessing the damage.
The singer, who was born and raised in Barranquilla, took to social media to share an emotional message for those affected by the disaster. Expressing her concern for victims and their families, Shakira wrote, "Beloved Colombia, my heart is with everyone who felt this earthquake today and with the families who are going through moments of anguish."
Her message came as rescue teams continued working across affected areas following the powerful tremor.
Shakira also highlighted the resilience of Colombians, urging people to come together during the difficult situation.
"In times like these, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another. All my strength and love for my homeland," she wrote.
The singer further encouraged people to remain alert and follow instructions from authorities so that help could reach those in need.
"Let's embrace tightly and stay tuned to the instructions so we can help as soon as possible," Shakira added.

The earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicentre near San Jose del Palmar in Choco province. The tremor was felt across several parts of the country, including Cali, Pereira and Manizales.
Reports following the earthquake indicated that more than 132 people had died, while dozens more were injured. Several buildings were reportedly damaged or destroyed, with rescue teams continuing to search affected areas as authorities assessed the scale of the devastation.
Aftershocks also added to the anxiety among residents and emergency workers.
