The Odyssey registers Christopher Nolan's biggest opening weekend in India, crosses Rs 70 crore mark

The Odyssey is turning out to be a great success for director Christopher Nolan. The film has become his biggest opening weekend film in India, crossing the Rs 70 crore mark in just three days

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has been witnessing a strong run at the Indian box office over its opening weekend, after hitting the screens on July 17. Headlined by Matt Damon, the fantasy epic has already emerged as the filmmaker's biggest opener in the country over the weekend after a spectacular opening day.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, The Odyssey has earned approximately Rs 21.90 crore net on Sunday, recording a marginal dip of just 0.5 per cent from Saturday's Rs 22 crore net collection. Talking of gross collections, the film earned an estimated Rs 26.16 crore on Sunday across 9,195 shows.

With those numbers, the film's total India collection now stands at an estimated Rs 61.30 crore net and Rs 73.19 crore gross following its opening weekend.

The Odyssey sets records for Christopher Nolan

The Odyssey opened with Rs 17.40 crore nett on Friday, followed by a solid growth on Saturday with Rs 22 crore nett. It continued its momentum on Sunday, helping it become Christopher Nolan's biggest opening weekend in the Indian box office.

On its opening day, The Odyssey collected Rs 20.75 crore gross on Day 1 across all languages, by comfortably overtaking the Rs 17.50 crore gross opening of the filmmaker's previous release, Oppenheimer. Additionally, it also surpassed the first-day collections of Nolan's previous releases, including Oppenheimer, Tenet, Interstellar and Dunkirk.

Not only in India, but the film also registered an impressive opening at the worldwide box office. According to trade reports, The Odyssey made USD 124.5 million in North America and another USD 139.6 million from international markets on its opening weekend, taking its global opening weekend total to over USD 264 million.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is inspired by Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, Odyssey. The film features Matt Damon as King Odysseus, Tom Holland as his son, Telemachus. The ensemble cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Queen Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous and Zendaya as Athena, along with the ensemble cast of Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo and Mia Goth.
